Another XYG Architectural Glass Project Makes It Onto the Emporis Skyscraper Award Top 10 List
Emporis has named the Paragon a top 10 winner of its prestigious Skyscraper Award for 2019. The Emporis Skyscraper Award is the world’s most renowned prize for high-rise architecture and has been awarded on an international basis every year since 2000. The primary criteria in awarding the prize are excellence in aesthetic and functional design. Every year, a jury of experts selects the winner. Buildings must have a minimum height of 100 meters and have been completed during the previous calendar year.
Previously, the F&F Tower (formerly known as the Revolution Tower) in Panama was a top 10 winner in 2011. Paragon is the first XYG architectural glass project in North America to have received this honor. The 48-story tower stands 157m above ground and contains 500 luxury rental units, 7,500 sq. ft. of retail space, and 188 parking spaces. Located in Chicago’s Central Loop neighborhood, Paragon features many amenities such as a co-working space, library, lounge, dog park, green spaces, spa and rooftop pool.
The design features a breathtaking glass façade with unique beveled corners, giving the tower a zigzagging vertical edge that can be seen from inside and outside the building. About half of the Paragon’s units have a window in the beveled edge.
XYG worked with Chicago Height Glass and Entekk to supply Low-Emissivity Insulated Glass Units (IGU) for the patented Talon Wall curtain wall system that is prominently featured on the building exterior. The IGU is constructed of 6mm clear tempered glass and 6mm clear heat strengthened glass with argon gas filler in a 12mm aluminum spacer in the middle. Combined with our energy efficient low-e coating, the IGU allows natural light to brighten the building interior and keeps the occupants comfortable from hot summer days to cold winter nights.
